Okay I had a discussion yesterday based on the notions of being a "Fan," "Fanboi," or "Fanatic." With that, I'm just gonna break it down in my words on where I stand on each level as and what it means to be one of these things.
FAN - A follower/person who has interest or likes something or somebody. The lightest level of fanship. Not really devoted to the subject at hand, but enjoys it nonetheless. In short, you like something but don't consider it the end of the world if you miss it, lose it, dies or get cancelled.
Example: I am a fan of Jerry Springer. I watch it whenever I catch it, but I don't watch it all the time. :)
FANBOI - A follower/person who has is hopelessly devoted to a subject and will show their love and devotion in collection of paraphernalia, music, artwork, games or comics. They will even go as far as imitation and even creating works of their own based off a certain subject. In short, they treat a subject, object, or person like a religion.
Example: I am Michael Jackson's fanboi. I love his music, dancing, and I cried like a Japanese Schoolgirl when he died. Even going to "This Is It." I cried and danced there. :D
FANATIC - The most hardcore of the three. A follower/person who devotes their UNDYING allegiance to a subject/ person/ thing to the point where the person cannot visualize life without it. Fanatics tend to consider their subject of choice superior to all others despite the flaws. They have a tendency to become extremely defensive and is capable of becoming violent with other fanatics/fanbois/fans and against opposing fanatics/fanbois/fans causing grand-scale riots. Fanatics are known to go to jail/beat/maim/kill for whatever they follow.
Example: I am a Brazil Football National Team and FC Liverpool fanatic. I will beat the living shit out of anyone who says they suck and make them eat food through a straw. 8D
There is my explanation of what being a fan/fanboi/fanatic is. To my friend that I spoke to about this yesterday, hope this helps. :3

Lately, I've been on a South Africa kick since FOREVER leading up to the World Cup which I will be gladly attending. I have come across an interesting commercial that was fairly good to look at which it shows "role reversal" in South Africa.
Tell me, what do you think about it?

Yeah, you heard right. After 2 days of pain, 24 hours in the hospital, and an additional 5 days of misery, I am finally back! Yes, the Crazy Regí is back again. (Sorta.) Just now, I've gotta take it easy for the next week or so after my little dance with agony and near-(or not so much)death, because I was dumb enough to tell myself, "Oh, it's just indigestion...Ah, maybe it's an ulcer." I didn't go to the damn hospital until damn thing nearly BURST. Ho-hoooo boy would I be in a world of shit. XP Septicemia, anyone?
But I was glad I got the help and surgery I needed along with the help of a family friend to help me heal these past few days (Thank you, Ms. Andrea ^_^) to get me back to a good condition so that I would be able to carry on.
OH! I GOT GOOD DRUGS TOO! 8D THE COLORZ!!!

At 4th and Broadway tonight, walking to the bus stop, I hear a car playing Michael Jackson's "Wanna be Startin' Somethin'" and upon crossing traffic in the crosswalk, I spun in place and then MOONWALKED across the road, invoking cheers, honking, and high-beam flashing.
"Go 'head boy!" "You Rock" "Long live the King!" "Do it, baby!"
It was pure awesome. It's the BEST tribute I can give the man. ^^

A man who touched billions of people...
A man who brought joy to the world...
A man who spanned generations...
A man who broke barriers...
A man who made millions dance like him...
A man who had a giving and generous heart...
A man who was adored...
A man who was loved...
A man who was hated...
A man who was scorned...
A man who held a smile through the lies...
A man who was truly innocent...
A man who was pure...
A man who made me believe in magic...
A man who was history...
...A man who was a TRUE KING.
I remember dancing to his music in the living room with stereo on full blast, singing his tunes and ditties walking to and from school, imitating his moves in hurricane winds, fighting with with my friends over who gets to wear the single white glove when we "performed", breaking into tears when I first mastered the Moonwalk.
He was an influence in my life that will NEVER be forgotten. He was a man that was more popular than Jesus and did more for the world than God. Lived, Acted, and Looked like a king.
Happy Birthday Michael Jackson.
I love you and miss you with all my heart. There will never be another. <3

Okie-dokie guys...It's early and now and I have JUST finished watching a documentary on CNN called "Black in America" by Soledad O'Brien. I just want to take a moment to make a serious post in reflecting on this touchy and fairly controversial subject of what it means to be an African-American in America whether it comes to Politics, Economics, Education, Culture, and even Race Relations with other groups.
When it comes to politics, Black Americans have become more involved than ever knowing that we've do have the power to make a change and take a stand on what we believe and what is good for this country. Ever since the nomination of Barack Obama by the Democratic Party, there has been an unwavering fervor among the African American community and an indomitable sense of triumph when he was elected to be President. It was a sense of long awaited equality that a whole people have waited for over 400 years. It was hard to believe at 1st, but it was an awesome sight to behold. At that moment, I believed that ANYTHING is possible for me. No matter what my endeavor and what I choose. After the election, I felt invincible. Nothing could get me down. It just felt...Right. But I must say, my fascination with Politics grew tenfold within the last 365 days and it will continue to grow same with the rest of the Black Community. Those that are working to get things done, are figuring out how procedures work and what they can do to make things happen. It's a power that was awoken in 1955, but was revived in 2008.
When it comes to economics, economics itself can have an impact on education, culture, and race relations. Even to this day, African-Americans still are one of the lowest demographics when it comes to earnings and salaries despite the fact that there are more young Afro-Americans in college and graduating today than there were in 1989. (Up almost 180%) I'm not going to be foolish and say that race has nothing to do with how much a person earns, because it does...Their race and gender does make a difference. For every $1 a white American male earns, a black American male earns $0.78 which is just a little bit higher than a white American woman ($0.71) and drastically higher than a black American woman ($0.68). That means if a white male earned $21,587 a year (US Per Capita), I would in theory earn about $16,837...ALMOST $4,750 LOWER! That does scare me a bit, I won't let it deter me because I've strived to be the best of my abilities, but time will tell. Education is a factor in it all, but with that, African-Americans are at a disadvantage due to the schools that are zoned in the communities of the poorer neighborhoods that comprise of a black and/or latino majority. Sub-par equipment, out-dated information, ill-prepared teachers, you name it. The brightest minds in those crummy schools that yearn for a greater search for knowledge are unable to leave the schools do to the heavily flawed public school zoning laws. Even denying them entry to Magnet Schools. (Magnet Schools are for outstanding students, for my foreign friends out there.) When denied the opportunity...Well..."Idle hands are the devil's playpen."
Now, those African Americans that have "escaped" the perils of economic, political, and educational hardship are by no means "out of the woods." They are faced with conflicts of identity, culture and even relationships with other ethnic groups in America. If a young African American was to attend a good school, earn exceptional marks, become intelligent individual and they were to go around their peers in the inner city community, they're instantly accused of "acting white."...Yes..."Acting White." I've been accused of that MANY times among black youths and even among some of my Southern family members. Apparently, having a high intellect, speaking proper English, and have aspirations of doing something that DOESN'T pertain to what they see on BET, qualifies you as "White." It's crazy, I know. I had a weird adolescence growing up. However...Having a high intellect, credentials, being well-spoken DOES NOT shield us from discrimination, I don't think that for a minute. I will be and have been shown bias due to my ethnicity. An African American male of all demographic groups are the most FEARED individuals in America due to media portrayal of Black Males. A black male is...on average...twice as likely to be denied a home loan for a prestigious (and mostly white) part of town, three times as likely to be watched upon entering a store, 3 times as likely to be profiled a for ANY crime, and FIVE TIMES as likely to be bothered/accosted/arrested/shot by police. (guilty or not) I must say, it is unnerving to hear that, but it's a bit of a hard truth what I may have to face (Cosmos forbid) later on in life. Can't act black enough for your peers and community, not light (or white) enough to be accepted in higher society. Oy...
But after all of this, I'm not a bitter person. No I'm not. I've counted myself lucky to go this far in life without major "racial problems"...And I say major because I have experienced a few that were easily dispatched and became crisis averted situations and gotten off without too many problems, but I wouldn't think about NEVER having these problems, because I will tell you this...Not all streaks last. All I can do is keep my head up and stay on the right track to prosperity, liberty, happiness, and equality. :D
If you have any questions for me, please do ask me anything you wish and I will answer it. No scruples. Just taking the chance to discuss something worth-while that isn't about soccer, travel, and school. :3 And if you haven't seen "Black in America," try catching it on CNN.com, I'm sure it's there.
